Visitors to Lefkada can soon enjoy improved hiking experiences, as a new project has been launched to upgrade and better organise walking routes across the island.

On Monday, 6 April 2026, the Municipality of Lefkada signed a contract for the “Design, mapping, and improvement of signage and promotion of hiking routes.” The project, with a total budget of €457,597.20 (including VAT), aims to enhance accessibility, safety, and the overall experience for both residents and visitors.

The planned works include clearing and maintaining existing paths, removing obstacles, trimming vegetation, and improving overall walkability. A new signage system will also be installed, featuring clear information boards, directional signs, and accessibility-friendly signs with Braille.

Improvements will also be made at selected viewpoints and points of interest, including the installation of seating areas and protective features such as wooden railings. Among the locations mentioned is the popular hiking route to the waterfalls in Nidri.

Once completed, Lefkada’s hiking trails will be safer, easier to follow, and more enjoyable to explore. These upgrades will highlight the island’s natural beauty and support sustainable outdoor tourism.

For visitors staying in Vasiliki, this is particularly welcome news. The improvements will make it easier to discover more of Lefkada’s landscapes, from coastal walks to mountain trails, offering new opportunities for hiking, photography, and nature exploration.
